The great Booths ghost hunt

GHOSTBUSTERS checking out mysterious goings-on in a Knutsford supermarket say they are making progress.

Paranormal investigators, who think supermarket spooks are haunting Booths, claim their research has unearthed several clues.

"Many people in the supermarket have complained about a mysterious smell of rotten meat," said Alicia Leigh, who has been researching the site, once home to Knutsford's jail.

"The records say there were lots of complaints in the jail about the smell of the boiled beef they cooked on Wednesdays and Sundays."

She, and colleagues from the Northern Anomalies Research Association, became interested in the spooky shop after complaints of strange smells, noises and sightings.

The group has now discovered that the governor of the jail, George Burgess, was investigated for his treatment of prisoners.

But Alicia says one of the most interesting discoveries was finding that prisoners were forbidden to whistle.

"One of the supermarket staff heard whistling and then when she got there it stopped. Maybe that was because the ghost knew it was forbidden," she said.

The group is now looking for old pictures and drawings of the jail.
