• Cooks are needed to help make a two-course meal for pensioners.
But volunteers do not need to be the next Gordon Ramsay to apply. “If they can cook at home then that is good enough for us,” said a spokesman for the Knutsford branch of the CVS. The helpers are needed twice a week to prepare meat, potatoes, vegetables and a pudding for up to 24 pensioners at St John’s Wood Community Centre. The elderly are driven to the centre every Tuesday and Thursday so they can socialise with other residents. “We really rely on people’s good nature and a willingness to help,” she said. The group recently recruited two volunteers to drive the community minibus after a plea for help in the Knutsford Guardian. But they would welcome any new recruits – or residents who want to join the social group. The meal costs £1.80 and the transport £1.20. “People just have to live in the Knutsford area,” she said.
